Dean Kenning
Origin of the Artwork, 2018
£180.00 (3 left)
The Origin diagram presents what the artist considers to be the four dominant discourses which frame how we understand the constitutive origin of an artwork: the artist, the world, the material, the institution. Although these discourses are not mutually exclusive, one tends to take precedence at different historical periods or within certain contexts. Each category covers a range of related concepts, any of which may come to stand for the broader category, e.g. ‘genius’, ‘realism’, ‘process art’ and ‘consecration’ are ways of representing the four discourses. The schema is illustrated by means of one of Kenning’s own sculptures, a Gustonesque rubber-skinned head with bulging eyes.
Each print is signed on the reverse by the artist.
A bespoke framing service is available.
Dean Kenning exhibited at Matt's Gallery in 2019 with the solo show, Physcobotanical.
