Mike Nelson

Triple Bluff Canyon, 2004

£25.00

Triple Bluff Canyon was published to accompany the eponymous exhibition by Turner Prize nominee Mike Nelson at Modern Art Oxford in 2004. This installation was recreated at the Hayward Gallery in 2023.

The book’s front cover utilises an Arts Magazine cover from May 1978 depicting the work Partially Buried Woodshed (1970) by Robert Smithson that Nelson recreated in the gallery, adrift in forty tonnes of sand. References to the literary constructions of William Burroughs, Jorge Luis Borges, the Strugatsky Brothers and Stanislaw Lem abound in Nelson’s structures, set among tales of piracy, survival, desertion and the covert groupings of the stateless and the subversive.

With a short story by Brian Aldiss and an essay by Jeremy Millar.

Published by Modern Art Oxford.
