Thin Protective Coverings
13 – 22 January 1986
Martello Street
Thin Protective Coverings - Film Stills is a new work by Hannah Collins and will be on view at Matt's Gallery for seven days between 13th and 19th January, 2-8pm daily. Thereafter by appointment.
Hannah Collins makes use of images found in the local archive to re-witness the surrounding area. In this work titled Thin Protective Coverings - Film Stills, Collins uses the image of a damaged, faded, long since demolished cinema, site of night dreams, thoughts and fantasies on an institutional scale. Other locations also materialize, people and objects become part of situations in Hannah Collins studio which are carefully lit and photographed. Together with written comment from multiple sources they are re-worked and re-presented appearing as black and white prints on the scale of the cinema screen.
The inside-outside divisions of abandoned rooms, walls and shelters and the ultimate wall of the human body appear in the work in an attempt to find a route to describe basic experience.
