Big Throw
6 December 2024, 6:00pm – 9:00pm
Nine Elms
Matt's Gallery presents Big Throw # 1.
Big Throw is a performance series and a collaborative of artists wary of elegance. Though any representation will simplify the foments of the mind and the world at large, Big Throw aim to work as complicatedly as they can.
£5, online booking required – link below.
The evening will feature three new hybrids of spoken word, music, animation, object theatre and things without name.
The three performances of different lengths will be presented in rotation during this three-hour event, with interludes for eating and drinking.
Klara Kofen, 110 Fathoms
with Cameron Graham
Close-ups, maps, conversations, sound, vending-machine.
Sally O’Reilly, Dog Shelves (Various)
Table-top vignettes of the trodden on and the neurotically ornamental, featuring illusions, bad decisions and proximity to infinitude.
Jennet Thomas, IT IS WANTING
with Matt Rogers and Benedict Taylor
A frenetic performance of striped, coded beings enmeshed in a system of their own making yet out of their control. A lament to toxic automation.
Klara Kofen is an artist, writer and researcher. She is the co-artistic director of Waste Paper Opera. Her work is concerned with histories, speculative, counterfactual, real and imagined, and the way that technological interfaces shape our relation to time and affect.
Sally O’Reilly writes psycho-socio-material-fantastical narratives for performance, video and the page. Recent projects include the novella Help in Cucumbers (Joan, 2023) and the album with musician Kit Downes Where They Gather (October Records, 2022).
Jennet Thomas is an artist and filmmaker. Her works take the form of sci-fi folk tales, musicals and unreliable lectures, creating absurd worlds that confound straightforward readings. Recent projects include The Great Curdling (Whitstable Biennale 2022 and touring).
Big Throw # 1 is supported by University of the Arts London.
